USA Network renews a third season for its hit drama series “Queen of the South.” Owned by NBCUniversal, the network announced yesterday that the new season will premiere in 2018.
Hailing from Universal Cable Productions and Fox 21 Television Studios, the drama has been Thursday night’s number one cable series. Executive produced by Natalie Chaidez and David T. Friendly, the current season has an average of two million viewers.
Based on the book “La Reina Del Sur” by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, the series was adapted from a telenovela of the same name on Spanish network Telemundo. In June last year, USA first premiered the crime thriller and ordered a second season last Sep.
“Queen of the South” centers Teresa Mendoza (Barga), a woman who flees from the Mexican cartel and seeks refuge in America. Once there, Mendoza must join forces with Camilla Vargas (Veronica Falcone), her enemy’s estranged wife.
The “Queen of the South” finale airs Thursday, Aug. 31 at 10/9c on USA.
